careersim.ai (“we”, “our”) helps you rehearse career conversations — interviews, salary negotiations, 1:1s, and exec pitches — with AI personas. This page explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We aim for plain English. If anything is unclear, write to hello@careersim.ai.
1. What we collect
Account data
- Email address, display name, and password hash when you register.
- Authentication metadata (last login, IP for security alerts, session tokens).
- Optional profile inputs you choose to share — target role, industry, seniority — used to tailor scenarios.
Session data
- Transcripts of every message you and the AI persona exchange during a simulation.
- Scores, scorecards, and coaching notes generated from those transcripts.
- Metadata such as simulation type, persona slug, duration, and completion status.
Technical data
- Pages visited, basic browser/device info, and approximate region — through privacy-respecting analytics.
- Error reports and performance traces, with personal identifiers stripped where possible.
2. How we use it
- Run the service. Render conversations, generate AI responses, and store your session history.
- Generate feedback. Score your performance and produce coaching notes you can revisit.
- Improve the product. Aggregate, de-identified usage trends help us debug, prioritize new scenarios, and tune persona difficulty.
- Keep you signed in safely. Detect unusual login patterns and notify you about account events.
- Communicate. Send service-related emails (password resets, security alerts) and — only if you opt in — product updates.
We do not sell your transcripts. We do not share individual session data with third parties for advertising. We do not train third-party models on your private transcripts.
3. Processors we rely on
To run a modern web product we share narrowly-scoped data with the providers below. Each is a “processor” acting on our instructions under a data-processing agreement.
- AI model providers — to generate persona replies and feedback. Messages are sent in-flight and are not used to train their public models when the API setting permits it.
- Hosting & CDN — to serve the site and run our backend.
- Email delivery — to send transactional emails (signup, password reset, alerts).
- Analytics & error monitoring — to measure usage and catch bugs, with IP truncation where offered.
4. Cookies and similar tech
We use a small number of cookies and equivalent local storage entries:
- Session cookies — keep you signed in. Required for the app to work.
- Preference storage — remember UI choices like theme.
- Aggregate analytics — measure page-level usage. No cross-site tracking.
5. Your rights
Whatever jurisdiction you live in, you can:
- Access the data tied to your account.
- Correct profile fields you control.
- Delete your account, which removes your transcripts, scores, and account record from our primary systems within 30 days, except where retention is legally required.
- Export a machine-readable copy of your sessions on request.
- Opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
To exercise any of these, write to hello@careersim.ai from the email associated with your account. We respond within 30 days.
6. Data retention
- Active accounts: kept until you delete the account.
- Deleted accounts: purged from primary databases within 30 days; encrypted backups age out within 90 days.
- Anonymized, aggregate usage data may be retained indefinitely for product analytics.
7. Security
We encrypt data in transit (HTTPS) and at rest, hash passwords with modern algorithms, scope access on a need-to-know basis, and review our practices regularly. See our Security page for more detail.
8. International transfers
careersim.ai is operated from the United States. If you access the service from elsewhere, your data is transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our processors operate, under standard contractual safeguards.
9. Children
careersim.ai is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced via email or an in-app notice. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page always reflects the most recent revision.
